Cashier Complaint

Last Thursday I took my husband who suffers with neurological issues (including alzheimers) caused by chemotherapy with me. I try to let him do small tasks to give him a feeling of being helpful. I handed him a tube of cream to pay for and gave him cash. I told him to go ahead of me so that if he had trouble I'd be there. I turned to grab some bagels off the table by the line and while doing so the man in front of him told him to go ahead of him. It was easier to just go ahead , than for him since he has trouble getting the right words out. My husband walked over to the bench and sat down. The cashier and the man commenced to pointing and staring at my husband and making derogatory comments about him. Also laughing at him. I held my tongue until the man walked off. I asked the cashier why they were talking about that man and making fun of him. Her response was because he wouldn't talk and didn't say thank you. I then told her that was my husband and that she had no right to make fun of or to talk about anyone. That I had almost lost my husband twice in the past three years and she had no idea of what he was going through. She said she didn't know. Well she should have kept her mouth shut. She then had the audacity to ask if I went to a support group. Her behavior and comments have annoyed me previously and I had always up until then been able to go through a different checkout line but thhis day there was only 2 open and the other was express. I also told her I hoped the man was still outside and he was. I told him I didn't appreciate what they had done and that my husband had alzheimers. He commenced to saying he was sorry he didn't know. Why is ignorance always their excuse. A cashier is employed to take care of the customer. Both of them said the other one started it, however that doesn't give either of them the right to talk my husband down throughout the whole check out time for him. I wrote to corporate on Thursday online and as of today all I've received is computer generated responses that I'll receive communication within 24-48 hours. Well I'm not happy. My husband has a new dr to see on Tuesday. If I don't get a response that pleases me by then, I will be transferring all of his prescriptions on Tuesday afternoon.

I agree with you on this situation with the Cashier. The Cashier's job at Publix was to create a more pleasurable environment for the customer who was having a hard time. The cashier should have been more understanding and patient in that tough situation. Don't insult the customer and make rude comments. The employees job at Publix is to make Shopping at Publix always a pleasure because you're job is to help the handicapped or customers that are having hard times. I'm an excellent bagger at Publix Store #205 in Easley. My name is Joseph and I do a good job packing groceries and take much pride on making customers days feel great by providing premier customer service each and every day. All the customers love seeing me and always ask for me when I'm not at work. That is how important i am to there shopping experience.
